I officially became a Hawkeye yesterday when I moved into my dorm in Iowa City. I packed up the Highlander Friday afternoon between my two shifts at the Pizza Ranch. My parents and I began the 90 minute drive around 9:30 Saturday morning.
We found our way to Burge Hall and I checked in while Dad found a place to park. After unloading my belongings we had to move our vehicle. We found a place on the street and walked to Panchero's for lunch.
After lunch, we went to Target to pick up some necessities. I then said goodbye to Mom and Dad and began getting settled into my room. I have made a list of additional items I need to either buy or pick up from home.
I think I am all set with textbooks. I bought most of them online, as it was much cheaper than the bookstore. Hopefully I didn't purchase from deadbeats that won't ship my books. I spent a while this morning exploring the basement in Burge. There are some long winding hallways, but I believe I found the quickest way to the laundry room and the computer lab.
I assumed my room, number 4132, was on the 4th floor, but I was glad to learn that its a ground floor room. I'm not sure where the Men in Engineering live, but with classes starting tomorrow, I can meet some people.
I just got interrupted for a while. I went to the Presidents Block Party. Gus, my RA stopped by and mentioned free food. Thats is all the convincing I needed. Gus told me the Men in Engineering is on the second floor on all four wings of Burge. He even introduced me to one of the RA's up there. There were several prizes given away including a bike, a Wii, several $100 check cards and some football press box tickets. Unfortunately, my number was never called. In addition to the free food, I also picked up football and volleyball posters, a water bottle and a keyring. I took a few pictures of the room, but I can't seem to find my camera cable at the moment. I hope I didn't leave it in Prague again.
